The Kootenays Girls Volleyball team (Zone 1) started Friday’s competition with a 2-1 loss in their first game, but said their hopes for the rest of the competition are great. Despite the loss, their confidence and readiness to continue fighting for a good showing in Saturday’s playoffs was visible on each and every one of their faces, and that emotion was expressed in every conversation. Kootenays lost the first set, bounced back in second, and then lost in the third. A problem for them at the start of the competition was the fact that they’re spread across a very wide territory that doesn’t give them too much of a chance to prepare together and come to the competition prepared to work as one body and one solid team. This could change over the next few games, as they hope to be more secure and more ready to fight their sporting rivals.
